Learning German grammar/grammatical material at the German Department, State University of Malang is contained in the Structure und Wortschatz lectures levels 1 to level 3. For most students, the Structure und Wortschatz course is a complex subject because this course focuses on the study of grammar. Grammatics in German is known for its high level of complexity. In order to help students to solve problems in understanding German grammar, Chabot media can be used as a means of independent study during the pandemic. Based on the advantages possessed by Chabot, the researchers felt the need to develop Chabot as an independent learning medium.
The innovative product that was developed is a web-based Chatbot application under the name Gramabot. This research includes the type of development research and qualitative descriptive research. This research and development use the Five Phases of Instructional Design research model by Cennamo and Kalk, which consists of five stages of development, namely: (1) definition, (2) design, (3) demonstration, (4) development, and (5) presentation.

Chabot works starts with the user inputting a word or sentence, then the system design on Chabot selects the data in the dataset and then presents it to the user as an answer output (Abilowo et al., 2020). Chabot can be built with many basic models, including AIML (Suryani & Amalia, 2017), PHP programming and the four pillars of the PBO concept (Abilowo et al., 2020), artificial intelligence markup language, Sequence-to-Sequence (Guntoro et al., 2020), waterfall (Afrianto et al., 2019), dialogue flow (Anwarulloh, 2019), natural language processing method and black box testing method (Alfareza, 2020).
Artificial Intelligence Markup Language is one of the methods used to create the flow of Chabot or Chabot’s knowledge (Abilowo et al., 2020). Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology are used to convert processed text into speech audio representations synthesized from text, for example, in the use of the Google Speech Recognition API (Afrianto et al., 2019). Chabot can be used by social media applications, such as the LINE Messaging API (Aulia et al., 2019), Telegram, and other social media.
