UM has played an active role in supporting changes in the use and improvement of energy efficiency in the community. This effort is manifested at the policy level to support research in renewable and efficient energy and at the implementation level through various community service projects carried out by the academic community, namely lecturers, educators, and students. UM cooperates with communities and business actors in socializing the use of renewable energy and providing technical assistance for its implementation.

UM also established the Center of Advanced Materials and Renewable Energy (CAMRY), which focuses on developing four research pillars in solar cells, biomass, energy storage materials, and smart grids to realize self-powered intelligent buildings). CAMRY also aims to strengthen research in advanced materials for renewable energy and increase research collaboration and community service.
