Distance Learning (PJJ) has been running for more than a year. It can be said that students are now more prepared with the online learning policy than when the PJJ policy was initially released. This policy was later slightly changed. The Minister of Education and Culture, Nadiem Makarim, said that learning could be done face-to-face in the even semester of the 2020/2021 school year on the condition that schools immediately improve their readiness to carry out face-to-face learning. Therefore, we are students of the Social Sciences Education S1 Study Program, State University of Malang, group 8A, as a community service group carrying out service with the aim of helping teach and motivate and share knowledge with class VII students so that they can understand what the teacher has taught. The preparation for the service began with a site survey and coordination with the school principal and social studies teacher for class VII A as well as introductions to the students of the Sabilurrosyad Islamic Junior High School Malang.
This face-to-face learning mentoring activity focuses on the students of SMP Islam Sabilurrosyad Malang because the environment is still within the same scope as Islamic boarding schools and there is a prohibition on using electronic equipment it hinders the implementation of face-to-face learning. This face-to-face learning mentoring activity was carried out in approximately four meetings within a period of two weeks. Starting from a site survey, asking for permission to serve the principal, coordinating with social studies teachers for class VII A, as well as coordinating activities to be carried out by group members.
Face-to-face learning mentoring activities will be carried out from April 8 to April 12, 2021, three times in stages. The core program activities carried out by our group include interviews with social studies teachers regarding learning barriers, conducting pre-tests, social studies learning assistance, conducting post-tests, and closing face-to-face learning mentoring activities by group 8A.
During the service activities, the students were very enthusiastic about participating in the mentoring process and they did not hesitate to ask questions about materials that were not yet known. Many students ask how to read difficult terms like “kjokenmodinger”. The results of the pre-test showed that 50% of the student’s answers were still wrong. And after learning mentoring was held and a post-test was carried out, the results of the student’s scores increased and were better than before.
The hope of holding face-to-face learning mentoring activities at Sabilurrosyad Islamic Junior High School Malang, students will be enthusiastic about learning and have a deep understanding of the material in addition to the lack of learning resources. Our long hope is also that the students of SMP Islam Sabilurrosyad Malang can continue their education at least until the high school level/equivalent, and they can understand the importance of education in order to improve a better standard of living and prepare for a bright future.
