Maintaining Food Security, PIPS Study Program Service Team, UM Invites Communities to Cultivate Hydroponic Plants

The Covid-19 pandemic has entered a new phase and is not going away. Many people are forced to lock themselves at home for fear of the spread of the virus. In fact, many of them are also affected by layoffs (PHK) due to a decrease in company turnover. Many people are looking for shortcuts to overcome economic life during the pandemic, starting from participating in fake trades, fake investments, some are even desperate and give up on the situation.

Good luck is befalling the community in RT 03/ RW 03 Kampung Baru Village, Wlingi District, Blitar Regency. The reason is that last October the community received training in the form of empowering hydroponic plants to maintain community food security. This program was initiated by the Community Service Team for the Social Studies Education Study Program, FIS, State University of Malang.

The field coordinator of this program said "We see the potential that exists in this Kampung Baru Village. Unfortunately, the village that once participated in regional Adiwiyata with hydroponics, did not continue its activities in hydroponic plant cultivation. Therefore, we took the initiative to meet the food needs of the family"

It's not just an outreach program about the importance of hydroponic plants for food security. The team also provided counseling on how to make personal disinfectants. Thus, the program, which is targeted at all elements of society in the new Kampung Village, is able to create food security and create a sterile village.
