Malang — 26 August 2025

Designholic Special Edition, organized by the 24th cohort of the Visual Communication Design Program (Desain Komunikasi Visual/DKV) at Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), presented “Bedah Karya” with Mora John as part of its series of activities. The first session was held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 14.00 WIB, followed by a second session on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, due to strong interest and enthusiasm from the audience. Both sessions were free of charge and attracted a wide range of participants, including many high school students eager to explore the world of art and design.

The discussions focused on Mora John’s intricate, eccentric, and distinctive artworks, which fascinated attendees with their unconventional forms and layered meanings. Instead of only admiring the visual aspects, participants were encouraged to analyze the deeper stories and cultural values embedded in each piece. Mora John emphasized that every artwork carries multiple layers of interpretation, and dialogue becomes an essential way to uncover those insights.

By engaging in critical reflection, participants sharpened their analytical skills, gained appreciation for artistic diversity, and learned to express ideas collaboratively. The program directly supported SDG 4 (Quality Education) by offering inclusive learning opportunities, and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by ensuring free access to knowledge for diverse groups.

Through Bedah Karya, DKV UM students demonstrated how art and design can be a platform for education, inspiration, and community connection.
