This year’s Thematic KKN program involves our team from Tlogomas Subdistrict Group 2 of the Thematic Community Service (KKN) of Science Education Department of Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), focusing on Tlogomas Subdistrict, RW.07, Lowokwaru District, Malang City, East Java Province. The Thematic KKN activities carried out by UM students are part of the MBKM (Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka) Program by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbud) and the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) and the Development and Learning Support Center (PSDW) of UM.

UM Thematic KKN students participated in teaching activities at PAUD Nusa Indah, Tlogomas, Malang City, on Monday and Tuesday, March 25 and 26, 2024. The children enthusiastically welcomed their presence. The main objective of this activity was to achieve sustainable development education.

The students assisted teachers in learning activities at PAUD Nusa Indah with activities such as coloring and pasting colored paper on umbrella and raindrop pictures. They also taught the children about different types of water and their benefits in daily life. PAUD students were also taught to spell their own names by the accompanying KKN students. Additionally, the children participated in a water walking practice activity using tissue, learning that water can travel through the tissue.

With this initiative, UM Thematic KKN students successfully contributed to teaching activities at PAUD Nusa Indah with the goal of achieving ESD (Education for Sustainable Development), which is one of the 4th Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A balanced and integrated approach in economic, social, and environmental dimensions is key to empowering and equipping the current and future generations to meet their needs.
