The Biotechnology Study Program, Department of Applied Science, FMIPA State University of Malang, has carried out an assessment and agreement on cooperation in the field of education and research with the School of Biology Science, University of Science Malaysia (SBS USM) on Monday, February 19, 2024, on the agenda of a working visit between FMIPA UM leaders and Faculty Leaders of Science at Universitas Sains Malaysia USM.

This activity began with an introduction to the management as well as the vision and mission of the two institutions. Next is an explanation of the potential for collaboration that can be carried out by both parties in turn. The activity continued with a discussion session between department heads to provide more detail on possible collaboration between institutions. One of the things discussed was student mobility activities and proposed research proposals that would involve research collaborators from Universitas Sains Malaysia (USM) to improve the quality of education at both institutions. The outcome of this discussion was the signing of a letter of intent and USM’s willingness to become one of the objectives of the Biotechnology students’ MBKM industrial internship activities for one semester. Other collaborative activities that were discussed and agreed upon as collaborative activities were visiting professors, visiting researchers, co-teaching, external examiners, co-supervisors, and student mobility activities. Furthermore, a visit to the learning and research laboratory owned by SBS USM was also carried out. Both parties hope that several agreed-upon forms of cooperation will also be realized this year. These activities really support the formation of improved quality education because both UM and USM are the best universities in their respective countries.
